Calmon-Stock Collection, 2000/2024.

Started in 2000 by Roberto Calmon and André Stock, the Calmon-Stock Collection is a panorama of the first three decades of the 21st century, which maintains as its guiding thread the unconditional support for young contemporary artists, young art galleries and art-political collectives. Since then, the collectors have collaborated with loans for exhibitions at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Caixa Cultural, Museu da Língua Portuguesa, MAM Rio, Centro Cultural Maria Antônia, Fundação Ecarta, ArtRio, among others. From a theoretical point of view, it is mainly Kantian aesthetics in its contemporary interpretations that emerges as a beacon and a path for collectors in discussions and choices with artists, gallerists and curators, in the act of always rethinking the question of the autonomy of aesthetic judgment. beyond the strict spheres of art or a supposed autonomy of beauty.

Contemporary interpretations of the “Criticism of Judgment” are the theoretical keys to thinking about the path, as they include the questions that interest the collection, that is, art, beauty, work, politics, ethics, possible meanings of the world and, more precisely, the political idea of art as creating new common meanings for the community. The Calmon-Stock Collection will always have the duty to look at the path of artists, works, institutions and social actions in art, with the aim of contributing to different ways of looking, living, expressing and organizing the world. Aware of the very high criteria of art, art criticism, art history and, mainly, aesthetics as a discipline, the collection seeks to translate a horizontality in the way of seeing what a Brazilian art collection is. Living with so many works, consecrated or not, and with so many different stories, is not only a privilege, but also a commitment to diversity and the promotion of equality. As collectors, who also move into other areas of knowledge, this seems to be a natural path.
